Protect Models from Becoming Dangerously Skinny

written by
Tessa Dewing

Rosalie Nelson is the 23 year old SR model currently responsible for a petition which - in her own words - aims to "protect vulnerable young girls and boys in the industry" by creating a UK law to stop the use of dangerously underweight models. Rosalie's petition now has over 135,000 signatures and is currently the subject of attention by an All-Party Parliamentary Group who will be discussing the issue in Westminster. Support for Rosalie's campaign has been bolstered after she made her own experiences within the industry public knowledge. During an interview with Vogue Rosalie stated:

"When I walked into one of the UK's biggest model agencies last year they told me I ticked all the boxes except one - I needed to lose weight. So I did. Four months later I lost nearly a stone, two inches off my hips. When I returned to the same agency they told me to lose more weight, they wanted me down to the bone."

Rosalie's story is a sharp indictment of attitudes that have been too prevalent within our industry for too long, and here at Sandra Reynolds we are fervently on the side of anyone hoping to make changes in the name of promoting healthier body images. Laws against modelling agencies featuring seriously underweight models are already in place in France and it's our privilege to be supporting Rosalie's petition to create a similar law in Great Britain.  We urge everyone to lend support wherever possible and look forward to hearing positive news in the near future.
