Sandra Reynolds pledges support for The Benjamin Foundation

written by
Tessa Dewing

We all realise how lucky we are here at Sandra Reynolds, coming from loving supportive families who have given us the foundations and opportunities to follow our chosen paths. Very sadly there are too many children and young people who do not have the consistent care and nurturing they need to be able to flourish and make their own way in the world.

The Benjamin Foundation is a fantastic charity, set up in 1994 by Richard Draper and his wife Vanessa to celebrate the life of their son Ben, who tragically died in a motorcycle accident at the young age of 17.  Since then, the charity has helped thousands, through delivering a range of services to support children, families and young people facing challenges - including working to prevent youth homelessness.

“As a company we feel passionately that every single child should have the support and opportunities in life to be able to live safely, independently and healthily and are delighted to be working with The Benjamin Foundation to help them achieve their goals in any way we can,” says Managing Director Tessa Reynolds. “The charity offers valuable programmes helping families build stronger relationships, offering wellbeing emotional support and providing positive opportunities for young people with limited opportunities in life.”

Recently we were honoured to be offered the rare opportunity of visiting one of the properties where the foundation provides a home and support to vulnerable young adults, typically 16-18 years old, who may otherwise have ended up homeless. It is a lovely spacious comfortable home where four young people live together and learn independence under the 24-hour supervision of staff who genuinely care and want the very best future for them. Whilst they are there, they learn skills such as cooking, cleaning and financial management.  They also work with a job coach who supports them through their education and teaches them essential life skills such as boosting self-esteem and interview techniques.

We are asking every member of the SR team to be involved in at least one thing - several of us are already signed up for the ‘Sleep Out’ happening in November.  The company will be increasing donations raised by employees, up to the value of £100 per employee, per year, as well as providing 15 volunteering days and supporting the Fight For Youth campaign.
