Meet the Influencer: Alex Serruys

Alex Serruys (A.K.A @alexincolour) is joining us for today's Meet the Influencer. As well as being an influencer, Alex has been modelling since she was young and says "I've always loved being in front of the camera and having fun!" If you're looking for a bit of colour inspo in your life, you've come to the right place... Alex is queen of all things colour, including her new purple hair which we LOVE! *Heart Eye Emoji*

Let's start with some modelling chat... what's the best job you've done so far?
I was the face of Miss Selfridge in 2018, my images were across the whole of the UK and ROI for a season, - to see a billboard with me on it in Oxford Street was wild.

How did you get into modelling, where did it all start?
I used to watch Tyra Banks and think I was her, doing my own fashion shows at home, it was my parents who then took me to castings and it went from there.

Aside from modelling, do you have any other professions?
Being an influencer, but I feel like being an influencer means you're also a negotiator, accountant and lawyer!

What is the funniest or strangest experience you've had so far?
Maybe not in modelling but in influencing, the strangest thing I find is people who see us influencers shooting in the street and laugh... I personally don't see the funny side in it - lol!

What are the top tips you would give to someone starting out as an influencer and wanting to build their audience?
Be consistent, find a niche and stay true to yourself and your style.

What's the biggest challenge you have faced in the influencer industry?
I'd say rates, there is no exact rate on what influencers should be paid so a lot of influencers undercut and get the jobs over you which is hard to watch happen.

Desert island situation... 3 things you can't live without?
My phone, family and Pixi Glow Tonic.

Pre-lockdown, what does your typical 'A Day In The Life Of' look like?
Well, before I was quarantined, I get up at around 7am, take my doggo out, feed him, take him back out, then I get washed and dressed and start working in my kitchen at about 8.30am.  I have lunch and go to the park with my dog then carry on working, or I potter and waste time playing Sims, making Tiktok dances or stupid memes... Hahaha! I usually set aside one day of the week for meetings in Central London and shoot content for Instagram on another day. Then I fill other days with edit time, or even filming styling videos... It varies day to day really but I try to stick to a sort of routine.

How would your best friend describe you?
Caring... she'd say I do too much for others before looking after myself.

And finally, because I love the varied responses we get on this question... if you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Cheese on toast...is that a meal? It's the BEST on a fresh uncut loaf, OMG, mouth-watering haha.

Thank you so much for chatting with us today! Anything else you'd like to add today?
Yes! Try wearing a bit of colour if you don't already, I promise it will lift your mood :)
